WOW, You’re a MORON!
Those that know me are aware that my house was burglarized on March 12th while I was returning from SXSW. For the uninitiated, my house was broken into around 2:30-3:00pm and they made off with my xbox 360, an old powerbook (which they grabbed the wrong charger for) and ripped my TV right off the wall. Needless to say it was shitty news to come home to, but things can be replaced and I was happy that my dog, who was downstairs at the time, wasn’t hurt.
Knowing full well that the detectives couldn’t be counted on to “search” for the stolen items I took it upon myself to call around to the local pawn shops and the very first one I called (Thanks Google Maps!) recalled a young white man who came in trying to sell a G4 Powerbook but the battery was dead and he didn’t have the right charger (clue 1) so he decided not to buy it. He also noted that the screen wouldn’t stay up on its own (clue 2), which is the reason it was replaced with a MBP. I immediately knew it was the laptop that was taken from my house and started asking about cameras in the store and if they would be willing to let me somehow get a picture of this guy. The guy working there wasn’t sure how to get the images off the security system machine so I took down a digital camera and got some second hand shots off the monitor as well as some video.
Take a little look:

After getting these photos I tried contacting the detectives for my case and waiting around for 3+ hours and no one ever showed up. That was a week ago and I still haven’t heard anything. This kid is most likely some local punk and is probably easily identifiable to “the man”, I’m practically solving my case for them.
Then I’m left speechless…
While getting ready to leave work on Friday the 21st my office is swarmed by some of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with who proceed to present me with a brand new xbox 360 and a copy of halo 3. The kindness of my coworkers made my day and made me proud to work side by side with them all. However this is only where the excitement begins…
Really, How stupid can you be?
I eventually hook up the new xbox (to my 20″ replacement TV) @ 4am and as soon as I recover my xbox live account I receive a voice message from someone I don’t know.
Have a listen, I’ll wait: idiot.mp3
Ready? OK. So this guy decided to leave me a voice message explicitly stating that he stole my Halo edition xbox 360 and that I could buy it back from him. Are you fucking kidding me? First thing I checked is whether or not it was a new account and sure enough the account shows usage back to 2007 and I’m willing to bet that it’s his personal account and will have his info associated with it. I wasn’t sure what to do so I tried calling East Detectives and was basically told to call back M-F during normal business hours, while I was on the phone I received TWO more messages from the culprit and explained to the person on the other end of the phone that I was now being harassed by the person who robbed my house and was hung up on.
GOOD JOB PHILADELPHIA POLICE, Gold Stars all around!

Wow, dude. Get him! Keep the updates coming.
March 22nd, 2008 at 9:38 am
That’s truely amazing. Gotta love the Philadelphia police, but I noticed one oversight… I think you meant “you’re” not your. Glad to see the Blog is finally up and running, and it looks amazing!
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:06 am
Holy crap dude! I hope you get the bastard, sorry to hear about the trouble.
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:34 am
I checked out his gamer profile and it looks like Mr. Dumbass goes by KINGSIKE11 as well. A google search for that turned up his ghetto YouTube profile, featuring him trying to rap: http://www.youtube.com/user/KINGSIKE11
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:50 am
This is an amazing story! I’m sorry that you’ve had to take things into your own hands.
You should consider contacting the local news about this story. I’m sure that they’d love to help catch this criminal and point out flaws within the police department.
March 22nd, 2008 at 7:39 pm
keep us updated, I want this kids ass in jail.
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Hey, http://www.myspace.com/chromeindustry . My new blog is all about criminals being given the upper hand, I live in the city and see it every day. It disgusts me that certain aspects I can’t even legally talk about in public. If we seize power, I guarantee you that all criminals and perpetrators of harm will have fates worse than death. In your case, I would be on the phone to Xbox Live, at his house. And then he would be tied up in front of his house with the door left open while he accepts the kindness of strangers for 3 days, and hopefully starves for that long.
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Also, delete the info you give about him here, you have been dugg and some moron might try to tip him off!
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I made a plea on the 360 forum to see if anyone could help you………you never know!!!
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I’ll be following this story. Catch the bastard.
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Sum1 on the 360 forum says he may have a youtube space under the name KingSike11 http://www.youtube.com/user/KINGSIKE11
If this is him, he says his name is JoJoe aka Birdman……does he look familiar bro??
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:54 pm
It’s a sad state of affairs when those sworn to the job won’t take a case that lands pre-closed right in their lap, but a big “right on” to you for taking care of business. I don’t want to get off on a tangent, but having been in your position before I might recommend that you take your personal security into consideration. You’re dealing with an idiot, to be sure, but he’s also a criminal. Keep the updates coming!
March 22nd, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Ah that sucks. Good luck! Hopefully the police do something.
March 22nd, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Dude you should totally call the local news. They love embarassing the crap out of stupid thieves. They would totally do some investigative journalism and go to this guy’s apartment, i.e. his mom’s basement. I’d be scared if I were you though, from his YouTube page, he looks pretty hardcore.
March 22nd, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Call Microsoft support. They’ll deal with the proper authorities. The Live team is good about that stuff.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:05 am
I would hide his gamertag from your post if I were you… Someone is going to give you away if you post his info before you snag him. Nice work so far though. I hope you OWN him. I also agree about going to the news. Be sure to say how lame the police have been thus far. If you really want to get them over there, call them up and tell them you have a gun and are going to his house.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:10 am
Did it ever occur to you that you could call Microsoft and report the messsage that you got talking about buying your XBox back?
They can track, and possibly give you the user who sent you the message, then you can call the blue, or even take matters into your own hands and go visit the pricks house/apartment, whatever it is.. by looking his name up in the phone book.
Simple really.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:29 am
Because he’s a minor you need to be very careful - you can’t just beat him up or you’ll go to jail.
I might suggest - scamming him by contacting him and convincing him that you think it’s cheaper to buy the box back than buying a new one. offer him $100 for it. Tell him you want to meet at a public place, A Starbucks so he won’t rob you (he’s a punk - make him think you’re afraid of him).
Get two big guys to sit at a nearby table - when he arrives have him sit down and offer to buy him a coffee. While you get up to get it have the big guys grab him pull his arms arounf his back and use a BIG cable tie to handcuff him and yell for the manager to call the police
.Make sure the name number of the pawnshop he tried to pawn the machine at are in your possession along with printouts of the security cams. Enjy having your Xbox back.
Go visit him in juvie and offer him a Nintendo with a donkey king cartridge,
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:31 am
Why don’t you go to the news stations and the local newspapers. They would love to get all of this on the news and run an easy story. Also could get the police working harder.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:52 am
call the police and report saying that he called you on your home phone and threatened to kill you
see if you can contact the guy to arrange a purchase when he calls you say something like ill buy it back for $20
you don’t need to keep him on the phone, just get him to call you
then when you report this to the police, it will be considered as a potential murder and they will have to give the case full priority
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:55 am
You’ve been dugg.
That’s a pretty good photo you got up there, couldn’t be too hard to spot him hanging around his junior high school (or the walmart). That youtube video made me barf.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:55 am
You could contact Microsoft, too. I’m not sure they’d do anything but it’s worth a shot. They could certainly give the police his billing address, that’s worth looking into.
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:01 am
ok.. i’ve seen (or read.. same thing..) some idiots, but this is a hall-of-famer.. xD neat..
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:02 am
I agree with Nick, get this story out on the local news station. They love to show these kind of stories. Now that you have pictures, audio, and youtube videos of the culprit, you will be able to get tremendous help from the community with identifying this punk. Keep the updates coming! Hope it turns out well.
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:04 am
Don’t worry, Sir, the Internet is here. Who needs professional law enforcement when you have an entire internet full of Superheroes?
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:05 am
haha this kid is a punk. I agree cops around here fucking suck. I had my car broken into by some punk around here and I tracked his ass down before the cops did even though this bastard hit up like 10 cars in my neighborhood. I hope you get him. Report him to xbox-live for harassing you (maybe they will suspend his account and help further since they can listen to the messages left.)
Get the officers badge number that hung upon you and file a report on him. While doing so handover your collected evidence and insist that they look into it (ask for cops badge number). While reporting another cops ignorance the next cop will cooperate as to not get a report himself.
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:09 am
Contact a private Detective, they will track this moron down in a matter of minuets, since the Police aren’t interested you can “negotiate” a settlement personally.
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:21 am
John: That’s almost certainly the kid in the dumbass in the video, and his voice in the idiot.mp3 sample.
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:33 am
I lived in Philadelphia 25 years and I’m sorry to report to you that they’re busy trying to solve the 400+ murders that took place last year.
I do help you find this little prick and add him to the count for 2008.
If you’re able to track down his e-mail account, forward it my way and I’ll track him down and give you his house number.
Also, I’ll be more than willing to pay him a visit next time I’m in town. I’ll split his head to the white meat just for being a pussy.
You got my e-mail address.

I totally agree with Nick. Give your local news a call and get that little bastards name and face all over the place. Not to mention, stating the fact that your local law enforcement doesn’t give a shit about anything that doesn’t make them money. So keep doing their jobs for them and please for the love of all that is right, GET THAT MUTHAFUCKER!
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:50 am
I’m sorry to hear that your house was robbed. I’m no expert, but I’d say there are a few things going on in the city of brotherly love that take precedence over a stolen Xbox… the 400 murders last year for instance. Quit bothering the detectives who have more important thing to do, grow a pair, and enact some vigilante justice. Hell…if you’re afraid of this little shit, drive to north philly and pay someone else to do it.
March 23rd, 2008 at 1:55 am
Agree to meet him to buy your Xbox back. If the police won’t help you, you have about all the evidence you need to take the guy to small claims court. It may not get him in jail, but at least he will pay for everything.

Keep calling the cops, if the invest. do not help. Ask for their captain, if that does not help then go one more step up the ladder. Show up at the office and ask to speak to someone, they can’t brush you off then. If they do, go to the local news station, dont call. This will get them moving, telling a department head that you are about to go to the news media always gets a response.
This is coming from a deputy, sometimes you gotta smack some heads together to get things going.
March 23rd, 2008 at 2:35 am
Anonymous is currently tracking this guy down as best as we can - because anonymous is great justice. By the way, was your TV a Phillips (15″?) flat panel HDTV? There’s a craigslist post here that seems to correspond to the details of the theft.
Update your blog - we’ll be watching it - or drop us a line at anon.is.justice@gmail.com.

I got a feed from xbox forums about your problem.Get the bastard and brand his forehead ,the join the police force because your guys don’t seem to care. good luck
March 23rd, 2008 at 2:47 am
Call up the police and say there is an old lady on your porch who looks like she needs to be tasered. The cops will arrive within 10 minutes. Some might say this is unethical though.
March 23rd, 2008 at 2:49 am
via his Youtube, make an accoutn tell him you like his rap and then get him on MSN or some other IM, get him to send you a song of his or something and netstat him, or get him to go to an apache server with logging set up by you, if you dont know how im sure someone reading this is willing, after all this is on DIGG, and once you have his IP you can get him on a map, and go to his house with a cop and a jackass like that wont deny you access to his house if the cop asks to come in, he’s never been paranoid of the FBI, it looks like you can get this guy man

March 23rd, 2008 at 3:02 am
I would honestly call Microsoft if you have already filed a police report. I am in my second year of law school, and while they are under no obligation to give you that information, you could easily call MS and explain to them the situation, provide them with a police report # and proceed to ask for/demand that they tell you the approximate whereabouts of the Xbox. They can without question give you an approx. location.

In addition to contacting Microsoft, I assume you have contacted the phone company to get the account information from the phone they are calling from. Additionally, send a link to your blog to NBC10, 6ABC, Fox29 and CBS3 … they love this stuff … Philly Cops doing nothing, you have data, they can use it to find the person. It makes great coverage. Finally, given the murder rate in Philly, be careful with this thug!
Keep us posted.

…and justice for all…
March 23rd, 2008 at 5:14 am
I will be really surprised if this guy ends up getting anything done to him by the local police, as you can see the victim of the crime was hung up on.
If you really want to get your gear back, take him up on his offer to buy your 360 (and perhaps laptop too?) like he said hopefully you can get him to meet you somewhere (sure that can be arranged he doesn’t seem too bright). Once you got him where you want him beat him down take your gear and be on your way.
It’s not like he’s going to go to the police and file a report, you teach one idiot criminal a lesson and you get your stuff back at the same time.
March 23rd, 2008 at 5:17 am

Organise a meet up for the 360 then get some mates to grab him and call the police or ‘deal’ with it yourself, either way would be awesome.

it’s nice to see people take justice in there own hands without any violence
and if the police are just as bad over there as they are here(uk)i think what you’re doing will give u the best chance of getting your stuff back.
hope u catch the sob
*saw this on digg
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:14 am
Perhaps calling the “law enforcement” officials and asking whether they want to deal with this seriously or should you “outsource” this issue to “some friends of yours”? Ok, I can understand the police not treating the theft seriously, but this punk will offend again so you’ve solved the case for them and they’re not interested in crime-prevention?
Police need to wake the f*ck up before vigilatism really starts to become popular.
Glad your co-workers were there for you; they sound like a real decent crowd.
Good luck.
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:25 am
The police will likely do nothing. I live in Philly and a friend of mines car got stolen, a few months later we found some dude in Reading selling off the parts (verified by one of the serial #’s). Gave the detective on the case the guys name and address, but they wouldn’t even drive to the guys house to question him. Shits crazy — you do all the work for them and they can’t even close the deal.

I love how his myspace says he’s “stressed.” Yeah, I bet so, punk. I can’t wait for the update to this post where you nail this vermin and get your xbox back. Good luck, mate.
March 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 am
Oh man, that kid is an idiot!
I have a few things to say in this matter. First off, I do not reccomend some of this “vigilante justice” people are reccomending. Binding him to a chair in Starbucks? Not a good idea. It’s called unlawful detainment and you could get in more trouble than the theif, if the stupid cops have a mind to, not to mention the kid’s parents getting involved since he is a minor(or appears to be). Someone has also mentioned the 400 hundred murders in Philidelphia last year. Ok, yeah that sucks, and it does make more work for the police, however that doesn’t mean they should be treating you like they are, and it doesn’t mean your case should be ignored. If anything they should be happy that you have taken steps to find evidence on your own, in an intelligent manner. As for contacting the news station? That may be a good idea, and they may decide to look into it, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on it, either.
At any rate, good luck, I hope that stupid kid is brought to justice.

March 23rd, 2008 at 9:59 am
Philadelphia cops are completely and totally incompetent.
I got hit by a car last year - not a hit and run, fortunately she stopped when my head went through her windshield. The cops came and wrote a report stating that the woman who had hit me was driving the wrong way down a one way street when she caused the accident. The catch? No ticket. My leg was shattered and I’ll never walk the same again, but the woman who hit me has no consequences whatsoever.
I called and wrote letters for months asking for a ticket to be issued or at least asking for a reason why they wouldn’t enforce the law. I got my state representative to call and write for me, too. Both of us were always told the same thing - you have to talk to the cop who responded, and he’s not here right now. Try tomorrow morning, tomorrow night, next Monday, etc. Finally, one of the officers answering the phone told my state rep that the cop who we had to speak to “would never be available for this call”.
Also, a few years ago, a guy (in a car) threw a brick through my brother’s car window. Both of them were driving at the time, so my brother followed the car until it stopped in a driveway, the guy got out and went into the house. Luckily, there was a cop about a block away, so my brother stopped and told the cop about the incident. The cop just stared at him and asked him “so what do you want me to do about it.” My brother told him he wanted the cop to at least question the guy about the incident. The cop refused to do anything about it, but did offer one piece of advice for my brother in case it ever happened again - “If it was me,” he said, “I would have shot the guy.”
Let’s hope Nutter fires EVERYONE on the current staff and replaces them with some folks who know, respect, and enforce the laws. Hey, I can dream. Otherwise, I have to move to another city that actually HAS a police force, not just a bunch of donut-eating, prostitute-beating criminals in uniform like we have here in Philly.
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:07 am
may the force (internet) be with you
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:14 am
Yeah, I would suggest deleteing all information regarding his identity and modding the comments (but not before copying down the info). If you want to catch this guy you need to be stealthy and smart, and you have the smart part down.
Wait on the media idea though. If you can’t get the cops to cooperate (i.e. take down badgenumbers, file reports) Then go to the media. You don’t want to spook the dude and let him know that certain eyes are watching him.
Also, calling XBL Support sounds like a great idea. Explain the situation, provide evidence, they will help. If they don’t then you can say that the Philidelphia Police will come back with a subpoena/warrant.
I’m not so sure about beating him up though. You want your XBox back, not his blood on your hands.
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:35 am
The phone message is evidence of blackmail and exortion, a much more serious offense. Insist that the police add these charges and see what they do.
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:52 am
why don’t you get a little movement of people to send him harassing messages on his xbox live and youtube accounts and at least ruin that part of his life. hope you get him, and i agree, someone may tip him off by reading all of the information that is on this posting.

Mad props on the detective work haha. Most people would probably not do the obvious and check a pawn shop like you did. Like somebody else said definitely check craigslist or other places like that to see if he tries to sell the other stuff. Keep us updated and I hope the police helps you out. Take it easy

March 24th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
That is really a shame that in a city as small as Philly they don’t have
detectives working 24 hrs a day trying to get your Xbox back. I am sure that your case is the only one they have to work on and they just don’t care about helping you. It’s not like they have a huge case load and appointments set up weeks in advance, they should be at your beck and call without caring about helping people in the order in which they were victimized. Look around when you go outside you will noticed all around you something called other people.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Dude - call the cops back and report a hate crime. Have them listen to the messages that this
moron left. They’ll respond to that!

I am sorry that happened to you, that’s horrible. I’m curios though, do you lock your doors and windows? Do you put up simple and common precautions to protect yourself from simple burglary? Not many people do, but I don’t know if it was inevitable to begin with or if there was nothing that you could’ve done to prevent it.

March 24th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
The guy looks like he’s like 16 at most so getting cops involved won’t solve anything he’ll probably get house arrest for like a week. You should just ask around with those pictures and then get your stuff back. Oh and don’t forget to punch him in the face, while it won’t solve anything it will make you feel better.
March 24th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
He was really stupid sending you a message on X-Box, because he has YOUR 360 and is trying to
sell it back to you, but how would you know that he is going to sell it back to you if he
has your 360 and you can’t get online to check your messages. It would be kind of pointless to try and sell it back to you when to even get the message you’d have to buy another one and get back online. So by then, you already have another 360 and have no need for that one he stole… (That sounded more
simple in my head… Hope you understood it.)
March 24th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
LOL.
This is hysterical. How idiotic can you be?
I had something similar happen in my store.
This woman stole a pair of earrings from the jeweler’s counter. She then came up to the counter and talked with my boss (the owner of the store) about a dry sink for sale in one of our vendor’s booths. She wanted it, but didn’t want to pay that price, she she proceeded to leave her FULL NAME and PHONE NUMBER to be contacted about possibly buying the dry sink at a lower price.
While reviewing the tape for that day, we watched her steal the pair of earrings. So we called the police and let them know about it. The police called her, and then she sent us a nasty note saying she’d never shop in our store again and that we were jumping to conclusions.
Apparently she has a history of theft. If you keep getting caught, why would you keep trying?
March 24th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I really hope this idiot gets what’s coming to him!!!
March 24th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
yeah man, I hear ya’. Sometimes you gotta take matters into your own hands. Hell, it’ll probably be alot faster than relying on the long, procrastinating arm of the law. From his messages, he sounds like a damn poser. I agree with Nick, you should contact the news about this, so that you catch that wannabe “gangsta” and you bring the problem with the Philly PD into light. YOU WIN TWICE!!!! Good luck bringing the hammer of justice down onto the ones deserving it. Pancake pancake, bacon eyebrows!

Typical Philadelphia police. They were most likely down at Geno’s steaks feeding their faces. I got robbed a couple of months ago, and the police treated me like I was the crim. First question they asked me is if I could prove I owned the items stolen.

March 27th, 2008 at 9:36 am
I had something very similar happen to me in January. An Amtrak conductor stole my laptop when I left it unattended on the train (ok i screwed up there). He then went online and I tracked his activity on my computer which I can do because I have logging software on there. I got him at a couple of different IP addresses including a hotel in South Carolina where Amtrak employees rest up, the other one was his home IP address in virginia apparently.
The police were not much interested until I tracked the guy to his profile on migente.com (since deleted) where he was dumb enough to post his photo and a description of his job - probably using my laptop to do it! For good measure, I spoke to someone at migente.com who was great and promised to hang onto all of this guy’s records ready for the police - all they needed was to subpoena and they could have had it all.
The police finally seemed a bit more interested once I had the photo (the train crew manifests made it really easy for them to ID him). Unfortunately I had got fed up with waiting by then and told them I would write a press release to all the local newspapers, TV, radio etc if they didnt get my laptop back. Well at that point I started to get some real personal service and i had my notebook back within 48hrs.
To be fair, the detective who got it back was a good guy and so were a couple of the uniform cops who I spoke to, they might have got it anyway in the end. Also to be fair to them, it was not the fault of the police that the Amtrak Office of the Inspector General told me to sit tight and leave it with them (the OIG)…. for three days, then came back and said “d’uh this is a police matter”, which i thought it was in the first place! But yeah, in the end the police didnt do too bad.
The moral of the story is if you bust the criminal before they do they get to look pretty bad. Tell them you are hiring a PI to do their job for them and that you will do a press release all about how you had to solve your own case if necessary!
